Research Assistant - Department of Oncology

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Research Assistant - Department of Oncology at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):
  1. Perform laboratory-based scientific techniques or clinical/population science (human subjects) research. Design and perform experiments, recruit participants for studies by developing surveys and interviewing candidates. Implement research objectives, ensuring compliance with all legal, regulatory, and protocol guidelines. Assist staff with experiments/research protocols as required. Communicate with the principal investigator and postdoctoral scholars/fellows on the research status.
  2. Collect and log laboratory results, clinical outcomes, and survey data. Evaluate and perform data analysis using graphs, charts, or tables to highlight key research findings. Proofread and edit research data and documents for accuracy.
  3. Assist the principal investigator with writing methods and summarizing/organizing data for presentations at professional, scientific, and academic conferences, and for submission to peer-reviewed journals.
  4. Maintain laboratory work areas, including routine maintenance of laboratory equipment. Order and organize research supplies and records. Keep the work station clean and organized.
  5. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Unique duties:
  • Coordinate and manage project-specific tasks such as data entry, verification, coding, analysis, literature review, and report writing.
  • Support preparation of manuscripts, presentations, and research grant proposals.
  • Develop outreach strategies to engage community and healthcare stakeholders.
  • Manage recruitment campaigns for projects and implement structured educational presentations.
  • Create and share engaging content via social media for projects and programs.
Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. Requires advanced knowledge acquired through specialized intellectual training in a science or learning field.

Experience: Entry-level (less than a year of related experience) preferred, especially in basic research techniques or human subject interaction.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to work independently; analyze, summarize, and interpret research data; knowledge of scientific integrity principles; excellent time management, organization, interpersonal, and communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience working in Middle Eastern/North African (MENA) communities, preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Arabic and English, preferred.
