Stanford University Hoover Institution seeks a research support professional to assist in research and public program efforts, exercising independent initiative and guiding less experienced colleagues. Responsibilities include experimental design, data analysis, and authoring sections of reports.

The role requires a BA in a social science and practical experience, with opportunities to supervise staff and coordinate budgetary tasks within a research setting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable social science and two years of related experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Ability to design experiments, define variables, and select subjects for studies.
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills with statistical methods.

Responsabilités

  • Adapt new procedures with supervisor guidance and coordinate experimental protocols.

Perform work to support research or develop public programs andpolicies requiring continuous exercising of independent initiative andjudgment. Provide guidance to less experienced colleagues.

Responsibilities

Core Duties:

Assist in designing experiments, exercising independentinitiative and judgment gained from completing a variety of high levelassignments, including activities such as defining variables,formulating hypotheses, and selecting subjects, sources of information,or planning and coordinating experimental protocols.

Adapt or work out the details of new, nonstandard procedures,with the supervisor providing general guidance and suggestions.

Interpret, synthesize, and analyze data using scientific orstatistical techniques.

Solve problems, and make decisions that affect the direction ofthe research and result in independent contributions to the overallproject.

Select and apply standard calculations and formulas independentlyto compile data or process documents; often serve as a resource forresearch methods and numerical analyses.

Co-author sections of research publications and regulatoryreports as needed.

Complete project-related administrative and budgetaryresponsibilities of a limited scope as needed.

Supervise staff or students as needed, including oversight andinstruction on techniques, as well as consultation on projectwork.

Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable social science related fieldand two years applicable experience, or combination of education andrelevant experience in an applicable social science.

Comprehensive understanding of scientific theory andmethods.

General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and mastercomputer programs.

Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment.

Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.

Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability tocomplete detailed work accurately.

Ability to work with human study participants.
