Job summary

Duke University School of Medicine's Division of Laboratory Animal Resources is seeking an on-site Animal Husbandry Technician in Durham, NC to join a dedicated team supporting humane care for research animals. Responsibilities include daily husbandry, cage maintenance, animal health checks, and data documentation in compliance with DLAR standards and Duke policies.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to obtain ALAT certification within 12 months;

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• ALAT certification or completion of internal Duke certification program within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Perform general husbandry duties for conventional and genetically engineered animal models.
• Maintain animal rooms and cages; operate cage wash and facility equipment.
• Conduct animal health checks and participate in quarantine and health surveillance programs.
• Document facility data daily as required by regulatory agencies and Duke standards.
• Communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing.
