The successful candidate will have an AA degree in animal science or related field (HS diploma required), prior animal care experience, and the ability to obtain ALAT certification

Qualifications

  • AA degree in animal science or related science preferred; HS diploma required.
  • Previous laboratory animal experience in a professional setting.
  • ALAT certification preferred, or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Capable of performing basic animal care with guidance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine care to laboratory animals including feeding, watering, handling, and cage changes.
  • Monitor environmental conditions in the animal room.
  • Observe animals daily and report health or behavioral changes to a supervisor.
  • Restrain and position animals for procedures and examinations.
  • Assist with medications per veterinary orders and support euthanasia protocols as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and decontamination of animal areas per SOPs.

Job Title: Animal Care Technician

Job Location: Kannapolis, NC

Compensation: TBD

Eligibility/Clearance: Candidate must be eligible to be employed in the United States

Job Description
Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide routine care to research animals to include feeding/watering animals handling and restraint of animals, and cage and bedding changeouts
  2. Monitor animal room environmental conditions
  3. Observe daily appearances and behaviors of experimental animals (both sick and healthy) and report to higher level employee
  4. Capture, restrain, hold and position animals for procedures, examinations, and treatments
  5. Dispense and administer medications per Veterinary Technician and/or Veterinarian orders
  6. Assist with animal euthanasia and necropsy following prescribed protocols as required
  7. Clean, decontaminate, and maintain animal wing spaces and cages in accordance with SOPs
  8. Operate autoclaves, washers, pressure sprayers and misters, and other lab equipment
  9. Use appropriate PPE and equipment as described in SOPs to protect self and fellow workers from contamination, infection or injury
  10. Enter/exit animal rooms and moves between animal rooms in strict accordance with SOPs to prevent cross contamination
  11. Adhere to security and safety procedures
  12. Assure that records, logs, and other documents are complete and maintained
  13. Follow written and oral direction
  14. Provide weekend and holiday support as assigned
  15. Perform other duties as required
Skills/Qualifications
Required
  1. AA degree in animal science or related science preferred, HS diploma required
  2. Must have previous Laboratory Animal experience or animal experience in a professional environment
  3. AALAS ALAT preferred or the ability to achieve AALAS ALAT certification within one (1) year
  4. Capable of performing basic animal care duties with guidance
  5. Effective verbal and written communication
  6. Employee is often required to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds, have visual and auditory apptitude
  7. Must be able to receive and maintain site access and required clearances
