Research And Development Technician-Polymers and Coatings
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Research and Development Technician to join our R&D team. In this role, you will support the development, testing, and optimization of innovative products, particularly those involving polyurea and polyurethane materials. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in chemical formulation, material science, and laboratory research, with a focus on developing robust and scalable processes. You will contribute to the company's innovation pipeline by conducting experiments, analyzing data, and ensuring the effective implementation of new technologies or products.
- Assist in designing, conducting, and documenting experiments to develop new product formulations, particularly for polyurea and polyurethane-based materials.
- Formulate, test, and optimize chemical formulations to meet product performance and quality standards.
- Record detailed data, analyze experimental results, and prepare technical reports to support product development and process improvements.
- Assist in the creation, testing, and modification of product prototypes, ensuring adherence to specifications and formulation requirements.
- Prepare, handle, and store raw materials, chemicals, and other substances required for R&D, ensuring proper safety and handling procedures are followed.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments, ensuring accurate calibration, proper maintenance, and optimal functionality.
- Assist in the scale-up process, transitioning formulations from the laboratory to production-scale processes while maintaining consistency and quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing and quality control, to ensure smooth integration of new formulations and materials.
- Assist in the creation of SOP’s and lab procedures related to materials testing in applications of interest.
- Ensure comprehensive documentation of all experiments, including detailed procedures, results, and observations, in compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards.
- Stay informed of industry trends and advancements in polyurea and polyurethane chemistry, and ensure that all R&D activities adhere to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in an R&D or laboratory environment, with a focus on chemical formulation and polymer materials.
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with polyurea and polyurethane materials, including formulation, processing, and application.
- Familiarity with laboratory techniques and equipment for chemical synthesis, testing, and analysis.
- Experience in the development of chemical formulations for coatings, adhesives, sealants, or other related applications.
- Ability to handle and analyze complex data sets, with proficiency in software tools for data analysis (e.g., Excel, ChemDraw, etc.).
- Ability to handle multiple projects and timelines efficiently.
- Strong technical problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions in a lab environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for documenting and presenting research findings.
- Attention to detail and adherence to safety and regulatory standards in a research or laboratory setting.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Working Conditions:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Positions self to install equipment, including under desks.
- Moves throughout the building to access files.
