Quarles & Brady LLP is seeking an experienced Research Analyst to support attorneys and business professionals with legal and business research. Hybrid role based in San Diego, Phoenix, or Denver, with 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Pacific Time schedule.

The position reports to the Director of Research & Knowledge Management and offers career development, mentoring, and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
• 4+ years of law firm research services experience.
• Working knowledge of multiple areas of law.
• Experience researching case law, statutes, regulations, dockets and filings.

Responsibilities

• Independently conducts legal and business research of varying complexity, analyzes and synthesizes results, and provides clear, concise summaries.
• Uses AI-enabled research tools and advanced search technologies, as appropriate, to improve research efficiency; develops effective prompts; and reviews AI-generated output against sources.
• Receives and clarifies research requests from attorneys and business professionals, identifies approaches, and communicates scope and timing.
• Advises attorneys on selection and effective use of resources.
• Provides research resource training and guidance.
• Records research requests in the ticket management system and bills time in the firm’s system.
• Contributes to Research Services communications initiatives.
• Evaluates new resources and provides feedback on value.
• Participates in meetings and knowledge sharing.
• Implements process improvements related to responsibilities.
• Maintains knowledge of tools and developments in research methods.

We have the opportunity for an experienced Research Analyst to join the firm’s Research & Knowledge Management department. This is a collaborative role supporting the firm’s attorneys and business professionals with legal and business research. This position is on a team of Research Services professionals and reports to the Director of Research & Knowledge Management.

Responsibilities:

• Independently conducts legal and business research of varying complexity, analyzes and synthesizes results, and provides clear, concise summaries of findings to requestors


• Uses AI-enabled research tools and advanced search technologies, as appropriate, to improve research efficiency; develops effective prompts; and reviews and verifies AI-generated output against authoritative sources before incorporating the results into work product


• Receives and clarifies research requests from attorneys and business professionals, identifies appropriate research approaches, and communicates regarding scope, timing, and results


• Advises attorneys and business professionals on the selection and effective use of research resources


• Provides research resource training and point-of-need guidance


• Records research requests in the department’s ticket management system and billable research time in the firm’s time entry system in accordance with firm guidelines


• Contributes to Research Services communications initiatives highlighting resources, services, and capabilities


• Participates in evaluating new and updated research resources and provides feedback regarding their potential value to the firm


• Participates in collaborative Research Services and department meetings and contributes to team discussions and knowledge sharing


• Identifies and implements process improvements related to the position's responsibilities


• Maintains current knowledge of available and existing research tools applicable to the position's responsibilities, as well as developments in research concepts, techniques, and methods


• Participates in professional development through internal and external training and involvement in professional associations


• Maintains strict confidentiality of firm matters


• Models qualities and performance expected of firm employees, including attendance, professionalism, engagement, responsiveness, and high-quality work product


• Uses resources in compliance with firm policies and licensing requirements

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution


• 4+ years of law firm research services experience required; practical legal experience a plus


• Working knowledge of multiple areas of law


• Experience researching case law, statutes, regulations, dockets and trial court filings, expert witness materials, attorney and judicial analytics, and verdicts and settlements


• Proficiency with major legal, business, and financial research platforms, including Westlaw Precision, Lexis+, Bloomberg Law, Practical Guidance, Practical Law, VitalLaw, CourtLink, D&B Hoovers, S&P Capital IQ, and comparable resources


• Demonstrated ability to effectively use AI-enabled tools in legal or business research, including prompt development, output evaluation, and validation of results against authoritative sources


• Familiarity with time-entry, billing, and ticket-management systems


• Ability to work independently, manage and prioritize multiple projects, and adapt to shifting priorities in a dynamic environment


• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to evaluate research results and synthesize relevant information into clear, concise summaries


• Team mindset and excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with a focus on responsive, high-quality service

Benefit eligibility is dependent on hours. Compensation is determined upon the market in which the position is located, the responsibilities of the position, the experience, education and skills of the applicant, and other job-related factors. The range for this position for individuals physically located in San Diego is $89,000 to $112,000 annually. The range for this position for individuals physically located in Denver $81,000 to $100,000 annually.
