Job summary

Virginia Tech’s Advanced Research Computing (ARC) seeks a Research Software Engineer, AI/ML to build and support software enabling AI for researchers. You’ll own portions of our LLM infrastructure and work directly with faculty and scientists to deploy scalable AI services.

The role combines hands-on development with outreach, including workshops to help researchers adopt AI tools. Sponsorship is not available; work is primarily on-site with hybrid options.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
• Professional experience in a Linux environment (shell, scripting, system-level troubleshooting).
• Experience developing and maintaining software and/or web services.
• Experience with containerization technologies for deploying scalable workloads.

Responsibilities

• Build and support software that makes AI/ML accessible to researchers.
• Collaborate with faculty, Computational Scientists, and ARC team to deploy AI tools for research.
• Lead workshops and training to help users leverage AI effectively.
