Job summary

Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) seeks a Reproductive and Developmental Scientist to join the Reproductive Toxicology and Epidemiology Section as an Associate or Staff Toxicologist. Responsibilities include hazard identification, dose–response analysis, and exposure assessments under Proposition 65.

Hybrid telework may be available for eligible California residents. The position is permanent full-time and located in California, with duties at the RTES.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in toxicology principles, public health, and risk assessment with a focus on reproductive toxicology.
• Experience in mechanisms/endpoints of reproductive or developmental toxicity, or quantitative risk assessments in reproductive toxicity.
• Ability to work effectively in a team, collaborate with external agencies, and communicate clearly.
• Ability to analyze situations accurately and take appropriate action.
• Ability to produce high-quality work that clearly conveys complex scientific findings.

Job Description And Duties

OEHHA’s Reproductive Toxicology and Epidemiology Section (RTES) is looking for a qualified and enthusiastic Reproductive and Developmental Scientist to join our multidisciplinary team as an Associate or Staff Toxicologist (depending on qualifications). RTES provides technical support for listing chemicals as causing reproductive toxicity under Proposition 65, analyzes dose-response data, and develops guidance for assessing risks of exposure to chemicals that cause reproductive toxicity. Primary responsibilities will include reproductive toxicity hazard identification, dose-response analysis, and exposure assessment activities. This advertisement is posted as until filled. Applications will be reviewed on the 15th and 30th of each month, and selections can be made. However, the Job Control will remain open until the vacancy is filled or until the exam list is abolished/expires.

Working Conditions

This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense.

Desirable Qualifications

• Proficiency in general principles of toxicology, public health, and risk assessment, with specific expertise in reproductive toxicology.
• Expertise and/or research experience investigating mechanisms and endpoints of reproductive or developmental toxicity, or experience conducting quantitative reproductive toxicity risk assessments, or experience evaluating and integrating mechanistic information into reproductive toxicity risk assessment, and providing leadership in the evaluation, development, and implementation of reproductive toxicity risk assessment methodologies.
• Ability to function effectively in a team, work cooperatively with outside agencies and departmental staff, and communicate effectively.
• Ability to analyze situations accurately and take effective action.
• Ability to produce high quality work products that clearly and concisely convey complex scientific findings and concepts.
