Job description

Join to apply for the Repair Technician role at STERIS.

Position Summary

You do not need previous instrument repair experience to be considered. This is an entry-level job — we will train you!

In this position, you will perform surgical instrument inspection, repair, and refurbishment in a field-based setting. Technicians work out of mobile repair trucks at customer sites and regional labs in more condensed markets.

  1. Technicians deliver superior customer experience by providing timely and quality repairs to meet compliance standards.
  2. Will undergo a 7-year driving record check as part of onboarding if offered this position.
  3. Must be able to work bi-weekly Saturdays.
  4. Can be based anywhere in the San Diego, CA metro area.

This is a remote, customer-facing position. To support and service our customers in this territory, candidates must be based in California.

Duties include:

  1. Perform basic to intermediate repairs of surgical instruments, including ultrasonic function, metallurgy, buff and polish, bending, shaping, sharpening, hinge points, serrations, and brazing.
  2. Demonstrate quality performance in advanced skills like Dremel operation, re-cup and re-jaw, laparoscopic inspection.
  3. Provide invoicing and documentation as needed.
  4. Work primarily inside a mobile repair truck, with frequent trips inside hospitals.
  5. Support various locations within the territory based on service agreements and customer needs.
  6. Follow all safety, health policies, and procedures, including using PPE and completing safety observations.
  7. Adhere to protocols for safe operation of the mobile lab, including policies related to the position.

Required:

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. At least 1 year of relevant work experience or 2+ years of general work experience, all verifiable.
  3. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and push instrument carts from 10-150 pounds.
  4. Flexible schedule, including early/late hours, nights, and weekends.
  5. Minimum age 21, able to meet FMCSA and driver’s license requirements.
  6. Pass DOT medical/physical exam and comply with DOT regulations.
  7. Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; maintain required vaccines.
  8. Able to travel overnight occasionally.
  9. Related certifications or military experience may be considered.

Relevant work experience may include repair, assembly, testing, or use of small tools, electronics repair, carpentry, automotive repair, etc.

Pay range: $23.00 - $27.00 per hour, based on experience and other factors. This position is eligible for bonuses.
