Position Summary

We do not require previous instrument repair experience to consider you for this entry-level job – training will be provided!

Why is the Repair Technician role crucial?

Properly sharpened and functioning surgical instruments enable surgeons to focus on patient care. STERIS offers onsite mobile repair, in-house repair labs, and five national repair centers to meet customer needs.

Job Details

This is a remote, customer-facing role. Candidates must be based in Maryland to support and service customers in this territory.

Responsibilities
  • Perform inspections and repairs on surgical instruments using various tools, with complexity varying. Success requires manual dexterity, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn.
  • Work in the field on mobile repair trucks, inside repair labs, or hospitals, depending on customer needs within the assigned territory. Ability to sit/stand for extended periods and work in small mobile spaces is required.
  • Frequent trips inside hospitals are necessary, with weather conditions varying.
  • Support different locations within the territory based on service agreements and customer needs.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 2 years of work experience, including 1 year relevant experience, or 1 year at STERIS (verifiable)
  • Ability to pass DOT medical/physical exam and comply with DOT regulations
  • Must be at least 21 years old, possess a valid driver’s license with a good record, and maintain required vaccinations
  • Ability to drive DOT-regulated vehicles and conduct safety checks
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and push carts from 10-150 lbs
  • Compliance with hospital/customer credentialing requirements

*Relevant work experience includes hands-on repair, assembly, testing, or use of small tools—such as small engine repair, electronics, carpentry, circuit repair, sterile processing, jewelry repair, etc. Maintenance, welding, construction, and automotive repair are also relevant.

Pay range: $18.99 - $26.50 per hour, with bonuses possible. Pay is based on experience, education, certifications, and other factors.
