Job summary

Wheeler Machinery Co. is hiring a Rental Shop Team Lead at our Sandy, UT location. You will lead a team of technicians performing repairs, diagnostics, and maintenance on Caterpillar and allied rental equipment, while owning shop pace and throughput to ensure rent-ready machines.

You will coach and mentor staff, manage workflow, and maintain safety and quality standards in a fast-paced, high-turn environment. The role demands strong troubleshooting and teamwork to keep fleets ready for customers.

Qualifications

• Dealership experience in heavy equipment repair.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to read electrical/hydraulic schematics.
• Excellent organization and communication skills.
• Proficient with Cat ET, SIS, and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-turnaround environment.
• Understanding of industry urgency to keep equipment available.
• Self-starter with professional, positive attitude.
• Willingness to promote teamwork across the company.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts, extended hours, or weekends.

Responsibilities

• Understand and adhere to safety responsibilities and maintain a safe shop environment.
• Manage daily rental shop operations, including work assignment and technician scheduling.
• Own WIP, remove bottlenecks, and keep units moving from check-in to rent-ready.
• Drive quick-turn on inbound rental returns to maximize availability.
• Manage estimates, service reports, parts, and core returns through the Daily Management System.
• Support fleet readiness and availability with rental and product support teams.
• Review estimates and oversee all repairs, diagnostics, and maintenance on rental equipment.
• Perform and oversee rental check-in/check-out inspections and document damage.
• Troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic systems using schematics.
• Lead, coach, and mentor direct reports on repair quality and service standards.
