Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience servicing commercial or industrial generators preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and natural gas engine systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting generator controls, electrical systems, and ATS.
  • Able to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals.
  • Familiar with diagnostic software and computerized control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on diesel and natural gas generators and ATS.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot generator failures, voltage irregularities, ATS faults, and fuel system issues.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Perform load bank testing and generator performance evaluations.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and participate in on‑call rotations.
  • Prepare service reports, inspection reports, and testing documentation.

DescriptionHunton Services , a division of Hunton Group in Houston, TX, has a new and exciting opportunity for you to join our organization as a Generator Service Technician . The selected candidate will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnostics, repair, testing, and emergency support of commercial and industrial power generation systems. This role performs field service work on diesel and natural gas generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), fuel systems, and temporary power equipment while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer service.Come work for an industry leader that has been recognized both locally and nationally as one of the Top Places to Work!ResponsibilitiesPerform preventative maintenance services on diesel and natural gas generators, including monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, and major interval inspections.Complete oil changes, filter replacements, coolant inspections, battery testing, leak inspections, operational testing, and alarm reviews.Must be able to diagnose and troubleshoot generator failures, voltage irregularities, ATS faults, fuel system issues, and controller alarms.Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.Perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, repairs, and component replacements.Service and repair starters, alternators, battery chargers, sensors, controllers, fuel systems, cooling systems, and related generator components.Perform load bank testing and generator performance evaluations.Connect temporary cabling and support resistive and reactive load bank testing activities.Monitor and record voltage, frequency, load percentages, temperatures, pressures, and other operational parameters during testing.Prepare detailed service reports, inspection reports, repair summaries, and load bank testing documentation.Track labor hours, parts usage, and customer approvals.Respond to emergency service calls involving power outages, generator failures, ATS failures, and critical power system issues.Participate in after-hours, weekend, and holiday on-call rotations as required.Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment safely and professionally.Support temporary power projects and emergency response mobilizations as needed.QualificationsQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required; technical school or vocational training preferred.3+ years of experience servicing commercial or industrial generators preferred.Strong knowledge of diesel and natural gas engine systems.Experience troubleshooting generator controls, electrical systems, and automatic transfer switches.Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.Familiarity with diagnostic software and computerized control systems.Strong customer service and communication skills.Ability to work independently and manage multiple service assignments.Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.Preferred CertificationsEGSA CertificationOSHA 10 or OSHA 30NFPA 70ECDL (Preferred)OEM Generator Manufacturer CertificationsEquipment & Systems KnowledgeDiesel and Natural Gas GeneratorsAutomatic Transfer Switches (ATS)Electrical Distribution SystemsGenerator Controllers and Monitoring SystemsFuel SystemsCooling SystemsBattery Systems and ChargersTemporary Power EquipmentLoad Bank Testing EquipmentPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods.Ability to travel locally and occasionally overnight as required.Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency service requests.
