Job summary

Valero Energy is seeking a Renewables Engineering Co-op for Summer through Fall 2027 to support the ethanol plant in technical design and operations. The role offers hands-on experience in process equipment, project execution, and safety compliance within a bio-refining environment.

Applicants must be pursuing a relevant engineering degree, have at least 60 credit hours, and be able to work 40 hours per week. Valero provides mentorship and an intern symposium as part of its program.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Biosystems Engineering or related engineering major.
• Minimum 60 credit hours by start date.
• Graduation date on or after end of internship.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week.
• Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides technical support to the Engineering Manager for the ethanol plant.
• Supports design, modification and operation of process equipment.
• Manages projects from conception through completion including capital, expense and maintenance work.
• Works with operations and maintenance to optimize, troubleshoot and provide technical guidance.
• Prepares justification, cost estimates and documents for approvals.
• Develops technical specs to procure equipment and services.
• Supports maintenance and operations as a technical resource.
• Ensures compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management requirements (MOCs, P&IDs, isometrics, equipment specs).

Education

Bachelor's degree (in Chemical, Mechanical or Biosystems Engineering) or related engineering major
