Job summary

OPAL Fuels in Henrico, VA is seeking a Plant Operator to direct day-to-day operations at our renewable power plant. You will monitor large reciprocating gas engines and related equipment to maximize production while ensuring safety and environmental compliance.

The role requires knowledge of diesel engines, mechanical and electrical basics, strong recordkeeping, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. On-call and overtime may apply; pay ranges $37–$40 per hour with bonus eligibility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/ GED equivalent.
• Diesel/large reciprocating engines operation and maintenance experience is required.
• Must possess good mechanical skills.
• Basic electrical knowledge is preferred.
• General troubleshooting abilities.
• Skilled in recordkeeping and logging.
• Must be able to read and write well.
• Computer skills (Microsoft Office).
• Must be self-motivated and perform most tasks with little or no supervision.
• Working knowledge of pressure, vacuum, and flow.
• Experience with pumps, blowers, or air compressors.
• Experience in welding helpful.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, and maintain large reciprocating gas engines and associated auxiliary equipment.
• Maintain detailed records on production data, equipment operational hours, service schedules and outages.
• Check operating equipment daily including flow meters, gas chromatographs, fluid levels, pressure and temperature readings.
• Perform maintenance on equipment including oil/filters and valve replacements; participate in outages and overhauls.
• Maintain cleanliness of the plant; manage spills and keep yard and perimeter tidy.
• Stock and organize on-site parts; manage plant inventory.
• Respond to call-outs; coordinate with area managers for complex issues.
• Ensure safe operation; monitor for hazards and follow safe work practices.
• Communicate material/personnel issues with area managers; support problem resolution.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
