Job description

Renewables Environmental Permitting and Land Use Associate - Energy Storage

Locations: FULLY REMOTE (Anywhere in the USA); US NATIONWIDE PORTFOLIO

This is an opportunity to join an industry-leading renewable energy venture with private equity backing that focuses on the development, execution, and operations of utility-scale energy storage projects.

They have accumulated over 9GW+ of projects, including operating standalone battery storage assets nationwide.

The role involves joining an expanding Energy Storage Project Development Team, working with Department Leaders on strategic permitting initiatives such as development zoning, land use, due diligence, environmental compliance, and permitting advocacy across the portfolio.

The position supports Attorneys and Permitting Managers on permitting and zoning aspects of complex renewable energy projects. It involves collaboration with the Project Development Team to develop project-specific permitting plans and de-risking strategies. Experience in land use permit advocacy at public hearings is a significant plus.

Responsibilities:
  1. Act as a key contributor in permitting, zoning, project risk assessments, and environmental concerns for utility-scale renewable energy storage projects interconnected across ISOs/RTOs nationwide.
  2. Support land use, permitting, and zoning inquiries and public hearings related to renewable energy projects.
  3. Develop and implement a cohesive permitting, zoning, and environmental management framework for evaluating new projects.
  4. Collaborate with Development Leads on project-specific permitting initiatives to meet NTP/COD deadlines.
Qualifications:
  • 1-3 years of experience supporting complex permitting strategies, including early-stage development, zoning analysis, and permit advocacy for large infrastructure projects.
  • Experience drafting land zoning analysis and permitting plans for energy infrastructure sites.
  • Ability to work directly with Project Developers and prepare presentations on permitting and environmental compliance; excellent communication skills.
  • Track record of successful permitting strategies leading to project NTP/COD.
  • Experience with land entitlement, environmental regulations, and land development strategies.
  • Understanding of national energy markets and permitting requirements (PJM, ERCOT, SPP, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, CAISO) is preferred.
