Job summary

BEAR Construction Company in Illinois is seeking an Assistant Project Manager for its Renewable Energy Division to support Project Managers and field teams on solar construction projects. You will help coordinate scheduling, documentation, permitting/inspections, procurement, and project closeout while learning BEAR’s software systems.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of industry experience as a Project Engineer or similar role.
  • Construction experience or experience in a similar field.
  • Preconstruction and estimating experience.
  • Ability to problem-solve and seek solutions to conflict.
  • OSHA safety trained / basic understanding of construction safety.
  • Proficient with industry-standard computer skills (MS Office, Excel & Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, etc.).
  • Experience with construction management software; ability to learn and adapt quickly in fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to create, monitor, and implement project schedules using scheduling software (e.g., P6, MS Project).
  • Experience supporting solar or renewable energy projects (community solar, utility-scale, or rooftop PV).
  • Familiarity with renewable energy-relevant documentation tools referenced in BEAR solar recruiting (e.g., Procore/Smartsheet/Excel).

Responsibilities

  • Learn and utilize all applicable company software programs and project management systems.
  • Coordinate inspections and support permitting processes from initial approvals through project closeout.
  • Prepare and monitor commitment records, contracts, insurance certificates, and bonding documentation.
  • Manage and maintain project submittal and Request for Information (RFI) processes.
  • Collaborate with project teams to expedite procurement, materials, equipment, and deliveries.
  • Prepare and distribute meeting agendas, project updates, and meeting minutes.
  • Generate and maintain internal and external project status reports.
  • Coordinate project closeout activities, including punch lists, turnover documentation, and final inspections.
  • Assist with project estimating, budgeting, and preconstruction activities as needed.
  • Professionally address project concerns and communicate issues to the appropriate level of management.
  • Support coordination across multiple construction disciplines, including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and commissioning activities, as applicable.
  • Maintain organized project records, logs, photographs, and documentation to support quality control, schedule tracking, and project turnover requirements.
  • Assist Project Managers with project scheduling, look-ahead planning, and schedule maintenance using project management and scheduling software.
  • Support project safety initiatives and ensure compliance with company, client, and regulatory safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify risks, resolve issues, and maintain project momentum throughout all phases of construction.

Job description

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) — Renewable Energy Division supports the Project Manager and project team in planning and executing solar construction projects. This role helps drive day-to-day coordination, documentation, permitting/inspections support, schedule tracking, procurement/logistics, and closeout—while learning and using BEAR’s applicable software programs and systems.

APMs also help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and on schedule, and professionally address concerns while escalating issues to the appropriate level of management.
