Job summary

Pie Insurance is seeking a seasoned Underwriter to assess medium to complex risks, underwrite and bind new and renewal coverage. You will work with payroll partners, sales teams and customers to ensure favorable risk evaluation and profitable growth.

Travel up to 10% may be required. A strong background in workers’ compensation and knowledge of California market is preferred, with opportunities to advance as Pie grows.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of underwriting experience or equivalent.
• Intermediate to advanced knowledge of workers’ compensation class codes.
• Ability to sell our product while discerning risk characteristics in the direct-to-business market.
• Balance execution of processes with a high volume of transactions.
• Experience with Insurity, HubSpot and Salesforce preferred.
• Verifying businesses using Google, Yelp, LinkedIn, Facebook and similar sites.
• Experience underwriting payroll partner insurance is valuable.
• Strong expertise in California workers’ compensation market preferred.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and bind new and renewal coverage leveraging underwriting guidelines.
• Decide requests quickly using known risk exposures and guidelines.
• Build and maintain payroll partner relationships to drive profitable growth.
• Address payroll partner inquiries for documentation or support.
• Provide technical assistance to sales teams and customers on policy provisions and underwriting acceptability.
• Develop knowledge of forms, coverages, ratings, and manuals for the line underwritten.
• Participate in risk portfolio reviews and book management recommendations.
• Take on additional tasks as needed.
