Job summary

Zurich North America is seeking a VP, Sr. UW Manager - Surety Commercial to lead the East Region from New York City (preferred) with 15-20% travel to cultivate broker relationships.

You will mentor a team of production underwriters, shape underwriting strategy, and drive profitable growth while strengthening market positioning across commercial surety. A senior leader with deep technical underwriting knowledge and strong relationship skills is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years in underwriting or related commercial insurance roles.
• 2+ years of people management experience.
• Experience in a specialized line or segment.
• Strong knowledge of underwriting policies and risk assessment.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of market-facing underwriters with coaching and mentorship.
• Develop plans for underwriters to drive profitable business results.
• Review underwriting policies to align with strategic objectives.
• Identify market trends and work with actuaries on rate structures.
• Build and maintain broker and distributor relationships.
• Lead cross-functional leadership discussions to implement policy changes.
