Job summary

SMX is seeking a creative and technically skilled UX/UI Design Engineer to join our Solutions team. The role spans user research, prototyping, and front-end development for SAC, AWS, and other platforms, with close collaboration with SAC developers and federal experts.

The position is remote supporting a Washington, DC based customer and requires a US Secret clearance. You will design data-dense interfaces, build components, and contribute to a scalable design system.

Qualifications

• Secret clearance eligibility (U.S. Citizenship).
• Bachelor's degree in HCI/UX, CS, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years designing and developing UI/UX for enterprise web apps, especially financial planning.
• Expert in Figma with prototyping and design systems (Photoshop/Sketch/Trello).
• Proficient in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS for UI components.
• Portfolio showing design work and delivered front-end code.
• Strong written and verbal communication for cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Conduct user research and translate findings into UI requirements.
• Create wireframes, mock-ups, and high-fidelity prototypes; maintain a reusable design system.
• Build front-end components for SAC Applications and widgets using JavaScript/HTML/CSS.
• Design data-dense planning interfaces like forms, grids, workflows, and dashboards.
• Ensure accessibility per Section 508 and performance at enterprise scale.
• Support customer demos, usability testing, and issue resolution during implementation.
