Job summary

Builders Mutual is seeking an Underwriting Technical Consultant to serve as a senior technical authority across complex risks. You will drive underwriting strategies, mentor managers, and guide underwriters to elevate portfolio profitability.

The role is remote with Raleigh travel up to four times yearly, supporting teams in multiple states. You will collaborate with actuarial, product, analytics, and claims to evaluate results, refine guidelines, and ensure best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of commercial lines underwriting or equivalent experience.
• Broad technical expertise across Property and Casualty products and risk selection.
• Experience influencing at all organizational levels including leaders and managers.
• Ability to train, coach, and mentor underwriters and leaders.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary referral and technical expert on complex risks, portfolios, and underwriting issues.
• Lead refinement of underwriting guidelines, practices, and rating processes for profitability.
• Partner with actuarial, product, analytics, and claims to improve performance.
• Monitor performance trends and advise adjustments to meet growth objectives.
• Drive input into product development, pricing models, and technology initiatives.
