Job summary

Builders Mutual Insurance Company is seeking an Underwriting Manager for Builders Risk. This role leads underwriting operations, supports portfolio performance, and collaborates across functions to ensure disciplined risk selection and profitable growth.

The position ideally resides in Raleigh, NC, with a hybrid schedule requiring in-office presence two days weekly and remote work for the rest, or remote work within our footprint with occasional Raleigh visits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Finance, Insurance, or related field.
• 5-7 years of commercial lines underwriting experience with leadership exposure.
• Proven track record in profitable growth, retention, and customer service.
• Experience managing agency or distribution relationships and resolving complex issues.

Responsibilities

• Lead underwriting operations for an assigned segment or team and set priorities.
• Drive profitable growth through disciplined risk selection, pricing, and portfolio mgmt.
• Monitor performance, loss trends, and service quality; implement improvement plans.
• Review complex risks with delegated authority and coordinate needed expertise.
• Recruit, coach, and develop a high-performing underwriting team.
