Job summary

Pacific Life is actively seeking a talented Underwriting Managing Director to join our Consumer Markets Division and lead a team of Underwriters. This role supports 100% remote work and focuses on mortality risk assessment, risk selection, and complex underwriting decisions for life insurance.

You will evaluate applications, mentor senior consultants, and partner with distribution to drive growth while maintaining underwriting standards.

Qualifications

• 10–12+ years of life insurance underwriting experience with proven proficiency in underwriting processes and philosophies.
• 5+ years of team management experience in an underwriting capacity.
• Ability to handle advanced decision level authorities ($15 million or higher).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with internal and external relationship building.
• Critical thinking and attention to detail with the ability to identify information and changes quickly.
• Ability to translate information into actionable guidance for others.
• Ability to set goals, plan, and prioritize work.

Responsibilities

• Complete wing-to-wing underwriting decisions, starting with upfront data and tools.
• Staff coaching and development of Underwriting Consultants and Senior Consultants.
• Handle additional underwriting requirements by determining value, ordering, and reviewing risk.
• Finalize cases and perform second-sign duties as needed.
• Demonstrate dependability, organization, and sound judgment by adhering to schedules and performance standards.
