Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a Travel Data Analyst to support collection, analysis, and reporting of traffic information used to inform transportation decisions across Washington. The role focuses on data accuracy, accessibility, and meaningful analysis to strengthen safety and reliability of the state’s transportation system.

Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail with ability to identify data anomalies and summarize results.
  • Ability to manage workloads and meet quality and timelines.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision while maintaining productivity.
  • Clear written and verbal communication to update procedures and communicate findings.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze traffic data (volume, speed, classification) to identify inaccuracies and correct issues.
  • Process short-duration traffic counts, review docs, estimate daily volumes, merge data files, validate stats.
  • Guide field technicians to ensure data collection meets coding protocols.
  • Monitor permanent traffic recorder data, document issues, and coordinate fixes.
  • Provide backup for polling, time checks, and year-end data edits.
  • Fulfill internal and external data requests and direct customers to resources.
  • Maintain procedures and knowledge through documentation and cross-training.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data processing procedures and practices.
