Job summary

North is building the next-generation cloud, AI, and data spend management platform. We’re looking for a tester-turned-engineer to lead the test strategy, own the end-to-end framework, and build tooling that enables every team to write reliable tests.

The role blends manual verification with automation and emphasizes data accuracy and release validation. Based in New York City with a Hybird setup and US remote option, this role levels your experience and contributes to a fast, quality-driven

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience as a software engineer focused on testing, test infrastructure, or developer productivity.
• Strong experience with browser end-to-end frameworks such as Playwright.
• Ability to write production-quality code in TypeScript and Python.
• Experience integrating tests into CI/CD pipelines.
• Judgment about what to test, at which level, and what not to test.
• Experience with manual and exploratory testing, and comfort doing it alongside automation.
• Pragmatic, informed use of AI coding tools, including for writing and maintaining tests.
• Clear communication, and the ability to raise the quality bar without slowing teams down.

Responsibilities

• Own North's end-to-end test framework and how it runs in CI.
• Set test strategy across unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, and keep the suite balanced and fast.
• Build tooling that makes it easy for every team to write and maintain tests for the features they own.
• Strengthen how we validate releases before they reach customers.
• Manually verify releases and high-risk changes where automated coverage doesn't reach yet, and use what you find to decide what to automate next.
• Help teams test data accuracy, not just whether the UI works.
• Find and fix flaky tests, turn recurring gaps into framework improvements, and track the health of the suite over time.
