Job summary

Placements24 partners with a pioneering technology company to hire a Legal Counsel specializing in Technology and IP. This fully remote role centers on safeguarding IP assets, drafting tech agreements, and guiding data privacy to support global expansion.

The successful candidate is a SA-qualified attorney with 5–7+ years in technology/IP law, able to advise on licensing, patents, and M&A during a remote-first engagement.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
• 5–7 years post-qualification experience in technology law and IP.
• Experience with software licensing, SaaS, and commercial technology contracts.
• Knowledge of data privacy regulations (POPIA, GDPR).
• Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Protect and manage the company's IP portfolio including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
• Draft, review, and negotiate software licenses, SaaS, development agreements, NDAs, and partnerships.
• Advise on IP strategy, including patentability, freedom-to-operate, and monetization.
• Provide data privacy and security guidance, ensuring POPIA and GDPR compliance.
• Support product development with legal counsel on new technologies and market entry.
• Manage IP disputes and assist in IP-related M&A due diligence.
• Deliver training on IP and technology law to internal teams.
• Stay current with global tech/IP/data protection developments.
