Job summary

The California Energy Commission (CEC) is seeking two student assistants to help staff with projects ranging from administrative duties to engineering tasks. This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position under University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI).

Qualifications

• Minimum Qualifications: Students must be in good standing with a minimum 2.0 GPA or above.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Willingness to learn Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and various other computer programs.
• Ability to think critically, do thorough research, and communicate results.

Responsibilities

• Support program staff with administrative and investigative duties such as organizing and maintaining Building Energy Code and Benchmarking enforcement case files and notes.
• Create presentations and coordinate meetings.
• Conduct permit and registry research to find enforcement leads.
• Sort and filter data sets to find outliers.
• Perform calculations and data entry, as needed.
• Research building regulations; field verification, diagnostic testing, and acceptance testing procedures; and review Building Energy Code compliance documents for accuracy.
• Using energy modeling software to check the compliance of projects with the Building Energy Code under the performance approach.
• Monitor building enforcement email account and maintain various logs.
• Respond to technical inquiries on the Building Energy Code and the Building Energy Benchmarking Program.
• Assist investigators and management, as needed.
