Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Strategic Project Manager to lead automation projects in the pork industry. This remote role requires residence within 60 miles of a designated Smithfield location and involves up to 50% travel to facilities.

You will translate automation needs into practical engineering solutions and manage cross‑functional teams to deliver results. Responsibilities include design work, vendor coordination, proposal planning, and rigorous project controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field and 5+ years of relevant experience.
• 2+ years in a leadership role.
• Ability to apply sound engineering principles to issues.
• Knowledge of installation/construction project scheduling.
• PM skills; contract administration; codes/standards interpretation.
• Proficient in engineering economics.
• Proficient in AutoCAD.
• Proficient in MS Excel and Word.
• Willingness to travel ~50% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Design preliminary engineering and materials specs; prepare cost estimates; conduct feasibility studies; validate field work and create as‑built drawings.
• Coordinate and direct equipment vendors; plan layouts; maintain installation schedules; review consultant work and adjust as needed.
• Conduct pre‑project reviews; determine scope; prepare RFPs; evaluate proposals; submit progress reports to management.
• Review bids for compliance; prepare project documents and budgets; monitor installations; manage budget activities; advance robotics/controls knowledge.
• Lead and coach team members; drive a positive employee experience through development and mentoring.
