Job summary

Tempus in California is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for Security Engineering to drive key architectural initiatives across the security stack, including identity, access management, and secure distributed systems.

You will lead technical decisions, implement customer identity management, collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and help scale the platform to support real-world AI and clinical data.

Qualifications

• Experience setting the technical vision for a product area.
• Strong knowledge of identity standards and implementations (OAuth, SAML, SCIM).
• Multiple years on software development teams with leadership experience.
• Experience designing and securing distributed, event-based systems at scale.
• Proficiency with cloud providers (AWS, Google Cloud) and tools like Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with identity management platforms (Auth0, Okta, Entra, Ping).

Responsibilities

• Lead technical decisions for the security engineering team and implement best-in-class identity management and observability systems across the business.
• Manage and improve security microservices, frameworks, and tooling by addressing gaps and adopting new standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enforce internal security standards across a microservice architecture.
• Align project priorities with product stakeholders to deliver effective solutions on schedule.
• Identify tooling gaps and drive engineering process improvements and documentation.
