Job summary

Focus is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to lead hands-on design, evolution, and governance of internal enterprise platforms. You will drive observability, CI/CD, IaC, and compliance automation across multi-vendor systems serving government-related initiatives.

You will enable platform tooling, promote self-service, and mentor teams while collaborating with client leads and external vendors. Remote work from the continental U.S. is required.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of full-stack development with TypeScript and Python.
• Proven CI/CD experience and Terraform IaC.
• Experience designing complex multi-service systems with external APIs.
• Cross-functional agile team collaboration and stakeholder communication.
• Strong diagnostic skills for distributed multi-vendor failures.
• Experience on federal government digital service projects or civic tech programs.
• Familiarity with AWS GovCloud and FedRAMP compliance.
• Experience implementing synthetic test data generators or mocks.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain automated UI and API test suites using Playwright and TypeScript across product verticals.
• Design automated data generation tools and synthetic applicant profiles via Python and REST APIs.
• Develop front-end tools in React and TypeScript for external vendors and government stakeholders to generate test scenarios.
• Construct, maintain, and optimize CI/CD pipelines and feature-driven promotions.
• Build reusable patterns, self-service capabilities, and starter kits for platform adoption.
• Provide code reviews, mentorship, and set development patterns for the team.
• Act as liaison to client leads and vendor teams to enable self-service and smooth releases.
• Support cloud infra updates with Terraform and automated security scanning in a FedRAMP context.
