Job summary

Jack Henry & Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced Staff Database Reliability Engineer to drive the modernization of our enterprise data tier.

You will architect, automate, and migrate mission-critical workloads to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) while building self-service platforms for application teams and ensuring robust high-availability architectures. You will lead automation of backups, PITR testing, and failover drills, define SLIs/SLOs, and champion code-first, automated DB operations

Qualifications

9+ years of cloud and hybrid data center operations with a focus on Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Reliability Engineering.
Proficiency with GCP (preferred), AWS, and/or Azure.
Proficient in using GitOps, Terraform and Ansible in a CI/CD (continuous integration and continuous delivery) pipeline.
Experience using PowerShell, Python, or GoLang.
Solid understanding of Linux (POSIX) and Windows System administration as well as networking and firewalls.
Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL, including hands-on experience designing resilient high-availability and traffic-routing architectures (e.g., Availability Groups, PgBouncer) and proactive optimization of high-throughput OLTP workloads.
Understanding of security best practices and compliance standards such as CIS, NIST and PCI.

Responsibilities

Conducts & may lead the product technical design and prototyping, software development, bug verification and resolution.
Conducts & may lead system analysis and programming activities which may require research and timely, effective, and quality delivery of software into production.
Conducts & may lead technical/engineering support for new and existing applications from code delivery until the retirement of the application.
Conducts & may lead the testing and review of applications based on business requirements and industry best practices.
Uses best practices and standard guidance to create and modify code.
Considers how code changes will affect end users and internal teams.
Reviews code created by less experienced team members.
Works with QA team to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products. Leads complex decisions, present options and advocate for optimal solutions.
Works with cross functional teams as projects dictate.
Performs critical tasks and deliverables.
Sets and updates expectations on size, scope, and timelines.
Leads team in cross-functional meetings and discussions.
Creates and reviews required technical documentation.
Maintains latest industry knowledge, practices, and development in the software technology field.
Shares knowledge and expertise with the team.
Adheres to documented departmental and corporate standards.
Participates in, and may influence, the definition and documentation of standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Leads unit tests and integration tests to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of developed software.
Debug and troubleshoot issues as they arise, providing timely resolutions. May contribute to product architecture.
