Job summary

Affirm is building a remote-first engineering team to own the search, recommendations, and discovery experiences across our platform. You will set the technical strategy for backend systems at scale and collaborate with product, design and analytics to ensure robust, business-impacting solutions.

You will lead the development of highly available services using Python or Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes, while mentoring teammates and shaping architecture for large-scale consumer

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with highly available distributed systems (AWS, MySQL, Spark, Kubernetes).
• Experience building consumer experiences with React.
• 2+ years in search or recommendation engines.
• Strong code quality & architecture skills with clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics in the lifecycle.
• Advocate for scalable technical solutions and operational processes.
• Own team operations, monitoring, on-call readiness and playbooks.
• Set code review and design standards and promote them cross-team.
• Mentor and develop team members through feedback and example.
