Job summary

Cognizant is seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to join our enterprise infrastructure team. The role focuses on administration, performance optimization, security, availability, and modernization of Microsoft SQL Server environments.

The successful candidate will support large-scale production databases, implement HA/DR, automate tasks with PowerShell, and collaborate with development and security teams in a remote US-based setting.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of SQL Server DBA experience.
• SQL Server 2012/2014/2016/2017/2019+ experience.
• HA/DR technologies (Always On, Clustering, Replication, Mirroring, Log Shipping).
• Performance Tuning & Query Optimization.
• Backup & Recovery Administration.
• T-SQL Development and Troubleshooting.
• Production Support Experience.
• Windows Server Administration.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, patch, upgrade, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments across production, development, test, and disaster recovery platforms.
• Monitor database health, performance, availability, and capacity while performing proactive tuning of queries, stored procedures, indexes, statistics, and execution plans.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues including performance bottlenecks, blocking, locking, deadlocks, and outages.
• Design, implement, and support HA/DR solutions (Always On, Clustering, Replication, Mirroring, Log Shipping).
• Develop, test, and maintain backup, recovery, business continuity, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Support application development teams by optimizing T-SQL code, stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers.
• Participate in architecture reviews, migrations, upgrades, and modernization initiatives.
• Automate routine DBA tasks using SQL Server Agent, PowerShell, and automation tools.
• Implement and maintain database monitoring, dashboards, runbooks, and standards.
• Administer Azure-based database platforms (Azure SQL DB, Managed Instance, SQL Server on Azure VMs).
• Collaborate with security, cloud, and infrastructure teams to support incidents and deployments.
