Job summary

EMC Insurance in the United States is seeking a Specialty Casualty Claims Specialist to lead highly complex casualty claims from investigation through resolution. You will coordinate with underwriting, risk improvement, legal and SIU, oversee trials and depositions, set reserves, and mentor other claims professionals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience required.
• Eight years of casualty claims adjusting experience or related experience, including at least four years in specialty line.
• Experience with Public Entity, EPLI, E&O, and/or Law Enforcement claims preferred.
• Relevant insurance designations are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage highly complex litigated casualty claims from investigation through resolution.
• Analyze coverage, liability, damages, contracts, statutes and policy language to determine exposure.
• Develop litigation strategies with defense counsel and prepare settlement recommendations.
• Negotiate settlements with claimants and attorneys; oversee trials and depositions.
• Set, monitor and adjust reserves; prepare large loss reports for claims roundtables.
• Draft reservation of rights, coverage opinions, and denial letters; ensure regulatory compliance.
• Direct investigations by gathering statements, reviewing reports, and coordinating with attorneys and experts.
• Identify recovery opportunities, manage liens, and pursue subrogation and cost recovery.
• Review legal budgets, invoices and vendor expenses for accuracy and cost effectiveness.
• Serve as a technical expert and mentor to claims professionals; collaborate with underwriting and risk teams.
