Job summary

Lyric, a leader in healthcare decision intelligence, is offering a 12-week Software Engineer Intern position remotely in the US. You will contribute to modernizing the payment integrity platform, build APIs and front-end features with Angular/React, and gain hands-on experience with cloud technologies and AI-assisted development.

Required is the third year of a CS/Software Eng/CE/IT program, with coursework in data structures, databases, and programming.

Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related technical field
Expected to have completed the third year of undergraduate study prior to the start of the internship
Completion of university coursework in programming, software development, data structures, algorithms, databases, or related computer science disciplines
Foundational programming experience gained through coursework, academic projects, personal projects, hackathons, research, or other university activities
Familiarity with at least one modern programming language such as: C#, Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, C++, or a comparable OO language
Foundational understanding of OOP, data structures, algorithms, and software development principles
Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL gained through coursework or project experience
Familiarity with source control concepts and tools such as Git/GitHub
Interest in using AI as part of the software development lifecycle while understanding the importance of validating AI-generated work
No prior professional software engineering experience required

Responsibilities

Contribute to the design, development, testing, and delivery of software supporting Lyric's healthcare technology platform
Work alongside experienced engineers on modernization initiatives involving modern .NET, APIs, databases, cloud technologies, and web applications
Assist with developing and testing RESTful APIs and microservices that support scalable application architecture
Contribute to front-end development using Angular, React, JavaScript, or TypeScript
Gain hands-on experience with relational databases, including SQL Server
Use AI-assisted development tools to support coding, debugging, refactoring, test creation, documentation, and other software engineering activities
Learn to evaluate AI-generated code and apply human judgment before integrating it into a codebase
Participate in code reviews and receive feedback on coding practices, architecture, testing, maintainability, and performance
Develop automated unit and integration tests and learn CI/CD practices
Assist with identifying, debugging, and resolving software defects and performance issues
Gain exposure to Azure and/or AWS and cloud deployment/monitoring
Learn observability, logging, monitoring, and telemetry for troubleshooting
Collaborate with Engineering, Product, UX, DevOps, QA to translate requirements into working software
Apply secure software development practices protecting healthcare and customer data
Participate in Agile development activities
Maintain clear technical documentation
Complete a defined internship project and present results to Engineering leadership
