Job summary

PPLSI is seeking a Software Engineer to contribute to the development and maintenance of software solutions across backend IBM i and frontend layers. You will work under guidance, learn IBM i skills, and collaborate with engineers, product managers, and QA.

You will practice modern development, CI/CD, and actively apply agentic AI coding tools like GitHub Copilot and Claude Code, with disciplined code review to ensure quality and security.

Qualifications

• 0-5 years of industry experience in software engineering.
• Degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent industry or training experience.
• Foundational knowledge of RPG, SQLRPGLE, and/or CLP for IBM i (backend IBM i focus).
• Experience with modern web or backend technologies (Node.js, C#/.NET) is a plus but not required.
• Growth mindset with eagerness to deepen IBM i skills and learn modern integration patterns.
• Interest in learning and applying agentic AI coding tools to accelerate development and review AI output for correctness and security.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain IBM i backend systems using RPG, SQLRPGLE, and CLP.
• Integrate IBM i applications with DB2 for i and enterprise systems.
• Understand SQL-based data access patterns.
• Deliver reliable, tested code including unit tests and CI/CD contributions.
• Track defects, resolutions, and bug fixes to support quality software delivery.
• Learn and apply agentic AI coding tools under senior guidance and review AI outputs before committing.
• Collaborate with fellow engineers, product managers, and QA across teams.
• Engage in ongoing personal study of modern technologies and AI-assisted development practices.
