Job summary

The McCourtney Institute for Democracy at Penn State University seeks a Social Media Intern who can translate long-form content into engaging short-form formats for social audiences. Starting pay is $15/hour for 10–15 hours/week; you’ll gain hands-on experience across platforms while collaborating with The Democracy

Qualifications

• Current Penn State undergraduate student.
• Strong visual and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with major social platforms and content differences.
• Understanding of resonating with younger audiences.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in Canva, CapCut, and Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
• Experience managing social media for an organization preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review podcast episodes, event recordings, and other content to identify and pull engaging clips; package clips appropriately for social platforms.
• Research social media trends and best practices to boost engagement.
• Develop content opportunities with partners in The Democracy Group and the College of the Liberal Arts.
• Capture photos and videos at events as needed.
• Collaborate with team to brainstorm content ideas and source information.
• Track content performance and identify what resonates with audiences.
• Assist with other marketing and communications projects.
