Job summary

The McCourtney Institute for Democracy at Penn State University is seeking a curious Social Media Intern to translate long-form democracy content into engaging short-form content for multiple platforms. You will gain hands-on experience in marketing, social media, and content creation while learning about The Democracy Group and the democracy field.

Starting rate is $15 per hour for 10–15 hours per week. Most work can be completed remotely with a weekly in-person meeting at the Susan Welch

Qualifications

• Current Penn State undergraduate student.
• Strong visual and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with major social media platforms and understanding of how content differs across channels.

Responsibilities

• Review podcast episodes, event recordings, and other content to identify and pull engaging clips; package clips for Instagram, LinkedIn, and other platforms.
• Research social media trends and platform best practices to strengthen content and engagement.
• Identify and develop content opportunities with partners in The Democracy Group and the College of the Liberal Arts.
• Capture photos and videos at events and activities as needed.
• Collaborate with team to gather content ideas and source information.
• Track content performance and identify what resonates with audiences.
• Assist with other marketing and communications projects as needed.
