Supervises a group of technical and professional staff engaged in providing photogrammetric services to support TxDOT engineering operations. Reports to the Design Division Director. Work requires contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Essential Duties:
- Assists in the development and maintenance of information, technology processes, policies, standards, procedures and associated roles and responsibilities.
- Consults with departmental engineering personnel and/or city, county, state and federal agencies concerning project status and scheduling.
- Coordinates and plans the use of hardware and software to support remote sensing operations.
- May serve as project manager, consultant, facilitator, reviewer or evaluator for a wide variety of survey, remote sensing and mapping projects, activities and/or committees.
- Oversees and/or prepares technical documentation and reports.
- Oversees the recruitment, training and development of a professional and technical staff to support and improve services and products in area of responsibility.
- Prepares and monitors budget and staffing requirements.
- Represents the Department at national, state and local levels regarding area of responsibility.
- Stays abreast of new technologies to support remote sensing operations.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Experience:
- 5 years of experience in Photogrammetry, surveying or cartography.
- Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent.
- Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
- Must have three (3) years supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

- Remote sensing and digital mapping processes and techniques
- Applicable surveying procedures, standards, and instruments. Including GIS/GNSS Satellite surveying procedures.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
- Standing-prolonged periods of time
- Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
