Job summary

Selective Insurance Company of America seeks a Trial/Sr. Attorney to defend insureds in litigated claims, advise the claims department, and manage a case load from inception to resolution.

Responsibilities include conducting legal research, drafting pleadings, and representing the Company in litigated matters in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The role requires Juris Doctor, bar admission, and 7+ years of legal experience, with trial experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree and bar admission required; multi-state admission preferred.
• 7+ years of legal experience in the jurisdiction; trial experience preferred.
• Excellent customer service, writing and oral communication skills required.
• Ability to demonstrate independent judgment, research, litigation, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Independently represents insureds in court and presents witnesses and evidence on litigated claims.
• Analyzes complex legal and factual issues, conducts extensive legal research, develops and presents defense strategies.
• Drafts pleadings, discovery, motions and briefs in support of defense strategies.
• Prepares for, attends and handles all activities related to full trials and appeals.
• Provides effective and timely communications to clients and claims professionals and assists in training materials for the Claims Department.
• Travel for depositions, court appearances, and client meetings; car travel about 20% of time.
