Job summary

Actalent in the United States is seeking a senior substation designer responsible for developing construction drawings, mentoring junior designers, and leading small projects. The role requires extensive AutoCAD experience, 2-D/3-D substation layouts, and coordination across departments in a fully remote work environment. AAS CAD/drafting and six years of design experience are preferred; the salary range reflects hourly compensation.

Qualifications

• Minimum of six years’ experience in physical layout design and CAD drawings
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical
• Experience creating 2-D/3-D substation layouts and BOMs
• Familiarity with grounding and lightning protection for substations
• Ability to supervise and mentor designers

Responsibilities

• Develop substation design layouts with guidance from a Design Engineer
• Create 2-D drawings and 3-D models using MicroStation
• Produce layouts of parts and assemblies in 2-D and 3-D
• Modify and update existing models to reflect design changes
• Manage file naming conventions and ProjectWise documentation
• Create or modify drawings including single line diagrams and grounding plans
• Lead small projects with minimal guidance and supervise junior designers
• Coordinate with other departments and validate drawings
• Check drawings for accuracy and quality
