Job summary

Carbon, a leader in additive manufacturing, seeks a senior hardware architect to own the mechanical system for our next‑gen 3D printers. This remote role is based from a home office in North Carolina and requires a track record shipping complex systems from concept to mass production.

You will bridge Systems, Electrical, Software and Materials Science, define validation and DFMEA standards, mentor engineers, influence multi‑year roadmaps, and drive long‑term performance through rigorous design

Qualifications

• 12+ years in mechanical or mechatronics product development, shipped complex systems to mass production.
• Mentored and leveled up Senior/Staff engineers across hardware org.
• Expertise in thermodynamics, structural dynamics, and precision motion control.
• Experience with Tier 1 JDM/CM partners and global pilot/production builds.
• Ability to distill technical trade-offs for leadership.
• Expert GD&T (ASME Y14.5), DFMEA, and SPC for high‑volume hardware.
• Mentorship towards junior engineers across the organization.
• Experience in material selection for sheet metal, metal, plastic, and elastomers.

Responsibilities

• Own the mechanical architecture for new 3D printing platforms with modularity and precision.
• Bridge Systems, Electrical, Software, and Materials Science to de-risk products.
• Define company-wide validation, reliability testing, and DFM standards.
• Translate product needs into multi-year technical execution plans.
• Identify and resolve architectural gaps to improve long-term performance.
• Serve as a gatekeeper in Design Reviews and root-cause analyses for hardware events.
