Job summary

Carbon is seeking a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer to design and lead the hardware roadmap for next-gen additive manufacturing systems. You will own high-level architecture, mentor a hardware team, and partner with leadership to translate product needs into a strategic technical plan.

You will drive design reviews, validate reliability, and ensure successful mass production while maintaining top-level engineering rigor and a focus on quality and manufacturability.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience in mechanical or mechatronics product development and shipping complex systems.
• Strong mentoring and capability to scale Senior/Staff engineers.
• Expertise in thermodynamics, structural dynamics, and precision motion control.
• Experience with Tier 1/JDM partners and global pilot/production builds.

Responsibilities

• Drive high-level mechanical architecture for new 3D printing platforms with modularity and precision.
• Lead cross-functional delivery between Systems, Electrical, Software, and Materials Science.
• Define standards for validation, reliability testing, and DFM at global scale.
• Influence the roadmap by translating product needs into a multi-year technical plan.
• Identify and resolve architectural gaps to improve long-term product performance.
• Serve as gatekeeper in design reviews and root-cause analysis for hardware events.
