Job summary

Pearson is seeking a Lead Specialist, Solution Architect to guide multiple engineering teams in modernising the OnVUE platform for secure, scalable assessment delivery. You will translate business needs into practical architecture and mentor teams through discovery to production.

Ideal candidates have deep Java and cloud-native experience, with leadership without formal authority and strong API/integration skills. Remote within the United States with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• Progressive experience in software engineering or solution architecture.
• Strong Java enterprise architecture experience, including Spring and Spring Boot.
• Experience across front-end and back-end with Angular.
• Cloud-platform experience; Azure preferred, AWS also relevant.
• Kubernetes, containers, cloud-native delivery.
• Experience designing scalable, reliable distributed applications.
• Strong API and integration experience.
• Proven ability to lead technical decisions across multiple teams without formal authority.
• Excellent communication, facilitation, documentation and mentoring.

Responsibilities

• Own solution architecture from discovery through production.
• Translate business needs into secure, scalable designs.
• Set technical direction across squads and ensure consistency.
• Guide engineering teams while preserving architectural intent.
• Evaluate trade-offs across scalability, resilience, security, value.
• Resolve complex architecture and integration issues.
• Establish repeatable technical patterns and adherence to standards.
• Mentor engineers and communicate recommendations clearly.
