Job summary

Pearson is seeking a Lead Specialist, Solution Architect to shape the architecture behind the OnVUE online proctored testing platform. You will guide multiple engineering teams, translating business needs into practical architecture and leading delivery from discovery through implementation.

This role combines deep Java and cloud-native expertise with the ability to influence without formal authority, overseeing across platform modernization and service resilience.

Qualifications

• Progressive experience in software engineering or architecture.
• Strong Java enterprise architecture experience, including Spring and Spring Boot.
• Front-end and back-end tech experience, incl. Angular.
• Cloud-platform experience (Azure preferred; AWS relevant).
• Kubernetes, containers, and cloud-native delivery experience.
• Experience designing scalable, reliable distributed apps and maintaining operational health.
• Strong API and third-party integration experience.
• Evidence of leading technical decisions across multiple teams without formal authority.
• Strong communication, facilitation, documentation and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

• Own solution architecture from discovery through production adoption.
• Translate business needs into secure, scalable designs.
• Set technical direction across squads and maintain consistency across the OnVUE footprint.
• Guide engineering teams through implementation while preserving architectural intent.
• Evaluate trade-offs across scalability, resilience, security and business value.
• Resolve complex architecture and build issues with escalation as needed.
• Establish repeatable technical patterns and ensure conformance with architecture standards.
• Mentor engineers and architects and communicate recommendations clearly to stakeholders.
