Job summary

sunday is building the fastest, simplest way to pay in restaurants. We are seeking a backend-focused engineer to own the integration platform that standardizes how sunday interacts with the ecosystem. You’ll focus on back-end systems but may touch UI and infra to ship end-to-end improvements.

You’ll work with Java/Kotlin/Spring, design scalable APIs, improve observability, and mentor others in a remote-first, globally impactful environment.

Qualifications

• Strong backend proficiency with Java/Kotlin/Spring and scalable integration architectures.
• Experience designing APIs (REST/gRPC) and evolving schemas safely over time.
• Experience with observability, logging, metrics, and incident analysis in distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Elevate stability and cohesion across integrations for a unified merchant/guest experience.
• Lead architectural decisions for scalability, resilience, and maintainability.
• Contribute to frontend tweaks and light infra changes to unblock delivery.
• Design clear API contracts and ensure safe versioning and ADRs.
• Improve observability, define SLOs, and build actionable dashboards.
• Own data integrity across distributed systems and drive root-cause analysis.
