Job summary

First Citizens is seeking a Mortgage Underwriter for a remote role that can hire in South Carolina or North Carolina. The candidate analyzes borrower income, assets, and credit history to determine loan eligibility and structuring, supports closing activities, and protects the bank from fraud and default.

Responsibilities include reviewing new applications for completeness, ensuring accuracy of income/debt calculations, and managing a loan pipeline to meet closing dates while assisting clients

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 3 years of mortgage underwriting experience.
• Alternatively, 7 years of mortgage underwriting with a HS diploma or GED.
• FHA/VA loan experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Underwrites mortgage loan applications, gathers income/assets/debt and analyzes credit history to determine repayment ability.
• Reviews new applications for completeness and eligibility per product/investor guidelines.
• Manages an active loan pipeline to support timely closings and maintains client communication.
• Provides guidance to associates on escalated client inquiries and investor programs.
