Job summary

OCSI.co seeks an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer in Idaho Falls for an advanced reactor design project. You will apply mechanical engineering principles to complex reactor-related designs, ensure compliance with ASME BPVC and B31 standards, and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to advance safety-focused concepts.

The role emphasizes design validation, configuration management, and coordination with fabrication, testing, and installation activities to support reactor operations

Qualifications

• Experience supporting reactor vessels, high-temperature gaskets, sealing systems, and bolting.
• Proficient in designing systems in accordance with ASME B31 series and BPVC.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team on a novel advanced reactor design.
• Demonstrated effectiveness at system design and evaluation.
• Demonstrated effectiveness with project completion and implementation.
• Proven experience with design of reactor vessels using ASME BPVC with high temperatures accounting for creep and fatigue.
• Proven experience with design of high-temperature gaskets, sealing, and bolting.
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for precision plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
• Knowledge of practical application of engineering science and technology in design and production.
• Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce sensible answers.
• Ability to synthesize information to form general rules or conclusions.
• Ability to listen and understand information presented verbally.
• Ability to communicate clearly in speaking.
• Ability to recognize potential problems.

Responsibilities

• Document the design of electromechanical devices and ensure conformance with codes and standards.
• Decompose objectives into defined design requirements using systems engineering.
• Use best-practice design methodologies to develop and validate designs.
• Establish testing, inspection, and quality requirements for design features.
• Oversee fabrication, construction, assembly, and procurement per design.
• Ensure design meets technical baseline requirements and applicable codes.
• Develop and maintain configuration management of the technical baseline.
• Maintain consistency across drawings, manuals, and operating procedures.
• Collaborate with designers, customers, and analysts on experiment requirements and installation.
• Lead design and fabrication activities for reactor operations and experimentation.
• Support development of integrated analyses to ensure facility safety bases are met.
• Other duties as assigned by Lead Reactor Project Engineer or Engineering Manager.
