Coinbase is seeking a Senior Data Engineer, Market Data, on the Institutional Markets team to build and operate real-time market data systems across the platform. You will work on feed handlers, normalization, and distribution layers, delivering low-latency services for trading across Coinbase.

The role requires hands-on experience with market data infrastructure and low-latency programming in Java or C++, plus familiarity with protocol suites such as FIX and ITCH/OUCH.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of backend engineering experience building production low-latency systems.
• Hands-on experience with market data infrastructure components (feed handlers, normalization, or distribution).
• Proficiency in low-latency Java (or C++) and familiarity with high-throughput messaging frameworks.
• Familiarity with venue/exchange connectivity and market data protocols (FIX, ITCH/OUCH, multicast).
• Record of shipping features end-to-end and operating what you build in production.
• Generative AI usage with human oversight to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain market data components including feed handlers, normalization pipelines, distribution systems, and venue connectivity.
• Design and implement low-latency, high-throughput services for real-time market data used by trading systems.
• Improve reliability and performance via observability, on-call participation, and incident response.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code and contribute to engineering standards on a lean team.
• Partner with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver market data capabilities on Coinbase's institutional trading roadmap.
