Coinbase is seeking a Senior Data Engineer, Market Data, on the Institutional Markets team. You will build and operate low-latency market data systems, including feed handlers, normalization pipelines, and distribution layers across Coinbase's trading platform.

The role requires 3+ years in backend engineering for low-latency environments, experience with market data infrastructure, and proficiency in Java or C++.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of backend engineering experience building production low-latency systems.
• Hands-on experience with market data infrastructure (feed handlers, normalization, or distribution).
• Proficiency in low-latency Java or C++ with high-throughput messaging frameworks (Aeron, SBE, or similar).
• Familiarity with venue/exchange connectivity and market data protocols (FIX, ITCH/OUCH, multicast).
• Track record shipping features end-to-end and operating in production.
• Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain market data components including feed handlers, normalization pipelines, distribution systems, and venue connectivity.
• Design and implement low-latency, high-throughput services for real-time market data used by trading systems across the platform.
• Improve reliability and performance through observability, on-call participation, and incident response.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code and contribute to engineering standards on a lean team.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver market data capabilities supporting Coinbase’s institutional roadmap.
