Job summary

Theron Partners Inc. is seeking an experienced Mainframe Senior Architect specializing in IBM mainframe performance and capacity management.

This hands-on role focuses on maintaining and optimizing the performance, scalability, stability, and cost efficiency of a large IBM zEnterprise environment. The position comprises about 80% performance management and 20% capacity planning, requiring deep expertise in z/OS performance, WLM, SMF/RMF data analysis, and large-scale Parallel Sysplex.

Qualifications

Extensive hands-on experience with IBM mainframe performance management and tuning.
Strong expertise in IBM z/OS and IBM Z architecture.
Experience in large multi-LPAR, Parallel Sysplex environments.
Deep knowledge of WLM configuration and tuning.
Experience analyzing SMF and RMF performance data.
Strong knowledge of Db2, CICS, IMS, and MQ workloads.
Hands-on skills with REXX and JCL.
Experience with performance reporting tools such as SAS/MXG and OMEGAMON.
Advanced know-how of MIPS, MSUs, forecasting and capacity modeling.
Understanding of IBM software pricing and cost optimization.
Excellent Excel skills and ability to present complex technical findings to technical and executive audiences.
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

Monitor and optimize IBM z/OS mainframe performance across large environments.
Analyze CPU, memory, storage, workload, and transaction performance in real time.
Identify root causes of performance degradation and resolve bottlenecks during peak periods.
Tune WLM policies and workload configurations.
Analyze SMF and RMF data to identify trends and optimization opportunities.
Evaluate the performance impact of Db2, CICS, IMS, and MQ workloads.
Work within multi-LPAR and Parallel Sysplex environments.
Forecast capacity and model MIPS/MSUs and infrastructure requirements.
Develop reporting and dashboards using SAS/MXG, Excel, OMEGAMON, IntelliMagic, REXX, and JCL.
Collaborate with developers, DBAs, infrastructure teams, DevOps, and leadership to communicate findings and recommendations.
Develop preventative strategies to maintain stability, availability, and low latency during peak workloads.
Provide technical leadership and mentoring in mainframe performance and capacity management.
